Editor's Letter: September

September 2, 2017

Oh god, I’m not very good at introductions. If I had an audience, I’d be pacing like the speed of light or trying to camouflage into any of the four walls right now. But I would like to finally welcome you to Hook’s website relaunch. It’s a place I’ve been building a home within for well over a month and it’s been hiding in my shadow for quite some time. And in my tethered technological state, hookmagazine.co.uk is ready to run free. September is always a good place to begin. We so often do not talk of the looming fatigue and waned energy that sits on our shoulders throughout August. We feel pressure to enjoy our summer, shame when we aren't and a general ‘in-between’ feeling shakes our understanding of where we are and thus who we are. But September? September feels fresh. We’re never ready to wave goodbye to the sun (wait, did we even say hello?!) but we’re always intuitively ready for September. Mercury and Pluto both go direct this month - after what seems like a lifetime of retrograde behaviour. The full moon (September 6th) in Pisces helps this planetary transition being the last sign in the zodiac - pushing us towards endings and our next chapters. This certainly feels like a new chapter for Hook. My biannual publication has already had one trip around the sun with two shiny issues finding their places on bookshelves and altars all over the world. As I begin the next phase of research and preparation for Issue #3 (theme, a-hem, yet to be announced - keep your eyes pealed), I will also be publishing writing, notes and features here. Whilst I cannot deny making the physical magazine makes my heart the most full, I have indeed missed releasing the insides of my brain to you all on the regular. I feel now is the right time to give a shout out to those who have been here since 2012 when my blog, louisvuittononthehook surfaced. I’ve never really reflected on Hook’s journey as I’ve always been pushing it forward, but a few months off has reminded me of the deep soul connection I have to doing what I do. Not a day has gone by since 2012 that I haven't been working towards this moment and not a moment goes by where I’m not working towards the next chapter to come. I welcome you into September and all it has to offer you. I hope you’ll continue to join me on this weird, wonderful lifelong journey that’s always had my back. It’s now my mission to have yours. And I have a feeling, it’s going to be magical…
